Redheads® BBQ Charcoal is a premium charcoal that delivers the results masters and professionals demand. Made from 100% natural hardwood sawdust with a high carbon content, they ensure consistently ultra-high heat output. Their unique hexagonal shape is designed to optimise airflow and heat distribution, facilitating precise cooking temperatures across a variety of outdoor setups. Ideal for low and slow cooking methods, these briquettes produce a low-smoke, low-ash finish without any chemicals, additives, or binders. Perfect for use in BBQs, kettle BBQs, firepits, spit roasts, open grills, pizza ovens, and BBQ smokers.

Available in practical 3kg and 10kg boxes, they are the preferred choice for professionals seeking premium outdoor cooking experiences.

(*Results may vary depending on factors including ventilation and overall charcoal volume utilised)

Keep it out of reach of children and store in a cool, dry location away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames, and any other sources of ignition. Never use BBQ fuel inside homes, vehicles, or tents. Burning BBQ fuel indoors can be fatal as it emits carbon monoxide, which is odourless.

How to light your BBQ

Open Grills

  1. Prepare the Grill: Place Redheads® BBQ Briquettes or Charcoal directly on top of Redheads® Firelighters.
  2. Ignite the Firelighters: Carefully light the firelighters.
  3. Wait for Ash: Leave the grate undisturbed for about 20 minutes. The briquettes or charcoal are ready when a layer of grey ash covers most of them.
  4. Spread Evenly: Once ready, spread the briquettes or charcoal evenly over the grate.

Kettle BBQs

  1. Setup the Fuel Tray: Place 2-4 Redheads® Firelighters on each side of the fuel tray.
  2. Add Briquettes/Charcoal: Position Redheads® BBQ Briquettes or Charcoal over the firelighters.
  3. Ignite and Burn: Ensure vents are open and the lid is off. Ignite the firelighters and allow the briquettes to burn for approximately 20 minutes, or until covered in a layer of grey ash.

Using a Chimney Starter

  1. Load the Chimney: Place Redheads® BBQ Briquettes or Charcoal into the large side of the chimney starter, ideally enough for one full layer across the cooking area.
  2. Prepare for Ignition: Place 2-4 Redheads® Firelighters under the chimney starter where it will be placed.
  3. Ignite and Heat: Carefully light the firelighters and place the chimney starter right side up directly over them.
  4. Burn and Spread: Let the fire burn for at least 20 minutes, or until the coals are covered with grey/white ash. Using oven mitts, dump the briquettes or charcoal into the grill and spread them evenly over the grate. Replace the top rack and wait 2-4 minutes before starting to cook.
