Sustainability Initiatives
About Our Sustainability Practices
At Redheads®, we are deeply committed to minimising our environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future. We actively seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint through innovative practices and responsible choices across our entire supply chain. From the materials we use to our manufacturing processes and packaging, we strive to implement eco-friendly solutions that support environmental conservation. Our goal is to not only meet but exceed industry standards, ensuring that every Redheads® product aligns with our commitment to a healthier planet.
Eco-Friendly Matchboxes
Redheads® matchboxes are made from recycled board with up to 70% recycled fibre. This reduces reliance on virgin resources and supports the circular economy. Our sustainable packaging reflects our commitment to eco-friendly practices.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified
Since 2010, Redheads® has proudly held FSC certification, a testament to our commitment to sustainable forestry. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures that our matchboxes are made from responsibly sourced paper products, promoting ethical forest management and protecting biodiversity. Our adherence to FSC standards means we are playing our part in preserving forest ecosystems for future generations. Environmental responsibility is integral to our operations, influencing every aspect of our value chain.
OUR STORYSustainable Timber Sourcing
The splints for Redheads® Safety Matches are made from Aspen Timber (Populus tremuloides), a species native to Scandinavia and the Baltic region. Aspen is known for its rapid growth and natural propagation, which reduces the need for intensive replanting efforts. By choosing Aspen Timber, we support sustainable forestry practices and ensure that our materials are sourced from environmentally responsible suppliers.
Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) Signatory
Since August 1, 2007, Redheads® has been a signatory of the Australian Government’s Australian Packaging Covenant (APC). This covenant focuses on reducing the environmental impact of packaging through improved design, production, and recycling processes. As part of our commitment to the APC, we continuously develop action plans aimed at minimising packaging waste and enhancing recyclability. Our efforts are geared towards using sustainable materials and reducing energy consumption throughout our packaging lifecycle.
LEARN MOREPlastic Packaging
The plastic used to wrap Redheads® matches is made from polypropylene (PP), a material preferred in many European markets for its environmental benefits. PP is not only thinner and lighter than paper, which reduces raw material and disposal costs, but it is also highly recyclable and burns cleanly without emitting toxic fumes. By using PP, we aim to balance functionality with environmental safety, ensuring our packaging is both effective and eco-friendly.
